Slow and Steady Wins the Race

Hello Reader,

Happy Q4! Fall is here! Spirit Halloween stores are everywhere, Starbucks has their famous pumpkin spice latte and traffic is now 10x worse now that the school year is in full swing.

Can you tell I'm from LA? If you came to LA in the fall that is the only thing that would signal that we are no longer in the summer months. But don't fret my friend.

If the end of the year brings about the angst because you're behind on business goals, don't worry, everybody is.

The start of a new quarter and the fact that is the LAST quarter of the year brings about both "let's get moving" energy but also a bit of pressure to close out strong.

So I want to share with you a REMINDER and a PRACTICE to bring into your Q4 that is not just about setting and finishing goals, looking ahead, and moving full speed, but also about taking time to be slow, and soft.

We all have that soft, slow and calm side to us, and we can tap into that side by intentionally slowing down.

What does this look like?

My Self-Care Kit. It is the toolbox, if you will, that keeps me going in my element and reminds me that my edge is being slow and soft.

Here's my Self-Care Kit: doing just ONE thing from it each day keeps me grounded. It's my consistency hack that reminds me that wherever I am on my path is exactly where I need to be. This gentle approach is actually my superpower – embracing a softer, slower pace aligns with my values of healing and self-nurturing and that my journey unfolds at its perfect tempo. So here it is.

Number 1:

Dancing

I like to wake up and spend a few minutes in bed to just acknowledge that I got to open my eyes that morning. I brush my teeth and if I've been running hard at the gym the last few days, I slow down by playing my favorite Nintendo Switch Game, Just Dance.

I get to move my body still but not as hard as running on the treadmill.

Reading

I'm currently reading How the Garcia Girls Lost Their Accent by Julia Alvarez. Reading for fun and pleasure is another way to slow down. I get to immerse myself in another world, another person's mind and delve into a story that doesn't have to do with my business. Not gonna lie though, sometimes I get a lot of inspiration from stories and books that have nothing to do with business, but maybe a line or a sentence from a book will spark a new idea, an "a-ha" moment or even sometimes a new solution I haven't tried.

Video Games

I'm not a huge gamer but I enjoy exploration games and I love it because, like reading, I get to visit another world, solve puzzles and fight. lol Yes I fight. I am currently playing The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom. Now if you are a gamer and you haven't played Zelda, you're in for a treat. It has puzzles, exploration, battle, storyline, and overall EPICNESS. IYKYK

Taking Bailey For a Walk

Walks with my dog Bailey are my 20-30 minutes of enjoying fresh air, reflecting and taking in some sun. I let my dog sniff everything in sight while I enjoy the fresh air that sometimes brings about a fresh perspective. Walks really are a way to step away from behind the screen and an opportunity to let my body release from sitting all day. But listen, you don't have to have a dog to go for a walk. Take a walk by your local park, if you have to drive to your nearest park, it's a small price to pay for a fresh reset to your brain and body. It may be just what you need for that challenge or pesky problem you've been thinking about all day.

What does Your Self-Care Slow Down Kit Look Like?

I encourage you to think of your own self-care kit. What are the activities that help you tap into that slow, soft, calmness? Once you have at least 3 things, aim to do at least ONE of those activities each day. Slowing down does help you keep going and at the same time avoid burn out.

Rediscover the slow, soft, calm, you.

As always. I got your back. Let's connect on IG or LinkedIn.
